Today, I want to talk about taking time to express your gratitude to others, whether you personally know them or not. This has come to light for me because, in the past 2 weeks, Jasmine and I have received personal handwritten notes, little gifts, cards, letters and emails of gratitude from people whose lives we have touched and didn’t even know it.
The Institute for the Future's (IFTF) Workable Futures: People Transforming Work in the Platform Economy describes 7 "archetypes" of on-demand economy (ODE) workers and their motivations for working in the ODE. To develop these archetypes, IFTF conducted in-depth ethnographic interviews with 31 workers across a range of ages and socio-economic backgrounds. The 7 archetypes are: The Part-Time Pragmatist , who doesn’t see online platforms versus

As an active employee, you spend a significant part of your day at the office. During that time, you need to carry out tasks, meet deadlines, interact with co-workers, and still have complete insight into the impact of your work. However, what you are unaware of (most of the time) is how your office affects the way you work. Whether you work at home or in a large company building, office design can impact your mood, your ability to concentrate and stay focused, and your ability to be productive.
Forgetfulness is costing you time, money, and a ton of missed opportunities. In the age of automation, it’s easy to underestimate the power of a well-trained human mind. But memory isn’t just a parlor trick, it's a strategic edge. Human memory is one of the most underrated business skills. Whether you’re managing people, leading sessions, or having high-stakes conversations, remembering names, details, and concepts can be transformative in building trust, absorbing knowledge, and driving perform

Hi, I’m Nicky Christmas and I am a job hopper. There, I’ve admitted it. I’ve spent many years cleverly covering up the fact that I spent most of my career hopping from one job to another in an effort to climb the career ladder. Prior to running Practically Perfect PA, the longest time I spent in any one organisation was 4 years and in that time I took on two different roles.
Do you have what it takes to be Revolutionary? Well, I have finally recuperated from hosting our big conference. It was a huge success and was worth all our time and energy. Our event this year was much bigger (in numbers) than 2015 and we were in a much larger convention space area than ever in the history of Office Dynamics so it took a tremendous amount of mental and physical energy on my part for 4 full days and nights.

J Walter Thompson Intelligence's The Luxury of Less suggests that "pared-down lifestyles" with less stuff are becoming aspirational for the well-off. Key quote: This idea of “less but better”—a phrase coined by the German industrial designer Dieter Rams—has been picking up steam in the wider retail world over the past year, and gained traction when Ikea’s chief sustainability officer Steve Howard argued during The Guardian’s Sustainable Business Debates in January that “i
Paper-based meetings are becoming a major inconvenience at the office and in the environment. Offices spend a lot of resources on paper, while the environment suffers from the carbon that paper usage emits. Fortunately, paperless meetings have come to take those nuisances away. Paperless meetings are conducted in digital rooms that provide tools and online document repositories to simulate face-to-face meetings through different computer devices.
Let’s be honest – we’ve all done it once or twice. We came to work early in the morning, especially on Monday and then decided to settle down a little bit by doing some easy tasks first. Seems pretty normal. However, if you are starting off your day with the easiest tasks on your list, you could be killing your productivity levels for the rest of the day.
One of the most popular excuses many businesses give for needing ‘in office’ personnel is access to files. Some businesses have whole rooms full of metal filing cabinets. Within those metal behemoths are file folders stuffed with paperwork that may or may not be needed in the daily running of the business. I say may not because I’ve worked in offices where at least two-thirds of the file cabinets in the office were never opened.
In the climb from contributor to leader, the rules quietly change. If you’re aiming for the summit, the air gets thinner—and what got you here won’t be enough to get you to the top (a concept first popularized by Marshall Goldsmith in his book What Got You Here Won’t Get You There ). What made you successful early in your finance career—technical accuracy, sharp analysis, flawless execution—won’t be what carries you to the next level.
Hi, I’m Merryl Futerman and I am one of the founders of PA Insiders. Having worked as a celebrity PA for nearly 20 years, one of the things I love most about the job i[link] never knowing what task is coming my way next. One of these unusual requests formed what would become the seed of PA Insiders. Let me explain. My boss bought an antique grand piano at auction for his country house.

Less than a month ago we wrote about the startup OfferUp raising $119 million to compete with Craigslist. Today Facebook released their Craigslist competitor, called Marketplace. Like OfferUp, it's a mobile first app designed to let you to discover, buy and sell new and used items - mostly with people in your local area. Marketplace is purely a matching service. The buyer send the seller a direct message from Marketplace to make an offer.
I have always had trouble knowing when to use the words 'then' or 'than'. Sometimes it is easy to figure out, but other times I struggle to figure it out. Well, today I came across a sentence where the person used 'then' and I was pretty sure it should have been 'than', but wasn't positive. Rhymes like '30 days have September', 'i' before 'e' except after 'c' (but there are exceptions), or what a school teacher I worked with taught me about when to use 'I' or 'me' in a sentence (if you can chang
The most overlooked, yet most critical, element of transformation is preparing people for change. Automation and AI aren't just technical upgrades, they’re cultural shifts which can challenge identities. That’s why change management isn’t a side project—it’s the foundation. In finance, where precision and process rule, navigating change can feel especially disruptive.
Over the past six years the University of Liverpool have been in partnership with a company named Vital Energi Networks. Just over a week ago, I had the honor of attending the Office Dynamics Annual Conference for Administrative Excellence. I was there both as a participant and a speaker, and the experience was, indeed, nothing short of revolutionary. As a proud former administrative professional, I consider myself intimately familiar with the unique challenges—and unique rewards—of the field.

Perhaps nothing is so routine as garbage day. At least once a week in neighborhoods around the world, garbage trucks hit the streets to empty waste and recycling bins at homes and businesses. Although these routes are carefully scheduled based on time and geographic location, they are not always the most efficient. The trucks come whether the bins are empty or full.
