Do you know when you are stressed? Do you know what you can do to eliminate your stress? Not everyone can answer those questions. Small doses of stress can help you perform well under pressure and even motivate you to do your best. However, when you are consistently pushed and in "emergency mode" your mind and body will pay the price.

Forgetfulness is costing you time, money, and a ton of missed opportunities. In the age of automation, it’s easy to underestimate the power of a well-trained human mind. But memory isn’t just a parlor trick, it's a strategic edge. Human memory is one of the most underrated business skills. Whether you’re managing people, leading sessions, or having high-stakes conversations, remembering names, details, and concepts can be transformative in building trust, absorbing knowledge, and driving perform
Interesting academic study on Twitter from Yahoo Research. The bottom line of the study is Twitter is dominated by a small number of users and much more of broadcast medium than a social network. Key quote from the study: “We find a striking concentration of attention on Twitter—roughly 50% of tweets consumed are generated by just 20K elite users—where the media produces the most information, but celebrities are the most followed.”.
While working at a bank many years ago, I approved a $10,000 fraudulent transaction. When the FBI showed me pictures of the man who had pulled a fast one on me, I didn’t even recognize him. In fact, the whole situation was kind of a blur. At some point, they pulled the footage from the branch security cameras and, as I flipped through photos of myself smiling and giving what appeared to be excellent customer service to a man on the FBI’s watch list, I could hardly believe my naivety.

No matter if you are a one-person show or you have a business that has many employees, unless you have business processes in place, you may find the business growing "out of control." The activity of organizing and writing down key activities and when they need to get done is critical to your ability to grow your business and thrill your customers.

It's taken a long time, but the small business economy is finally shaking off the Great Recession and showing solid gains. A couple of data points: - The overall job market is picking up with March's job report showing a gain of 216,000 jobs, and more importantly a gain of 230,000 private sector jobs. Great quote from an AP story on the numbers : "We are clearly seeing a breakout in the labor market," said Paul Zemsky, the head of asset allocation at ING Investment
In the climb from contributor to leader, the rules quietly change. If you’re aiming for the summit, the air gets thinner—and what got you here won’t be enough to get you to the top (a concept first popularized by Marshall Goldsmith in his book What Got You Here Won’t Get You There ). What made you successful early in your finance career—technical accuracy, sharp analysis, flawless execution—won’t be what carries you to the next level.
This chance taking is something some of you probably do pretty easily; so second nature that you may not even think of what you do as anything special. But for those of you who insulate, who don't reach out, who get into your comfort zone and stay there, this post is really for you. In the past couple weeks, I've seen just a HUGE amount of growth in my coaching clients and their practices as a direct result of their taking chances.
With Global Warming having shocking effects around the globe, do your bit to help the environment by keeping your workplace green. When it comes to wastage, offices can be one of the main culprits. With such busy schedules and deadlines to meet, saving the environment can be one of the last things on a worker’s mind. Simple tasks such as reprinting documents unnecessarily and repetitively boiling the kettle all have their negative effect on the big wide world.
" I'm so stupid! Why didn't I think of that? I have so much to do that I can't think straight! " Do you ever feel that way? If you do, you are not alone. Many people use negative "self talk" to justify why they are not getting the things done that they think they should. You start in a state of overwhelm and rather than getting out of that state, you start traveling down a bad path.
The most overlooked, yet most critical, element of transformation is preparing people for change. Automation and AI aren't just technical upgrades, they’re cultural shifts which can challenge identities. That’s why change management isn’t a side project—it’s the foundation. In finance, where precision and process rule, navigating change can feel especially disruptive.
Looking at business of all sizes, you can’t escape thinking about how vulnerable business is at different growth phases – some sizes seem to be more stable than others. Micro businesses seem to be very stable because there is limited change from month to month, overheads are low, they are often run from home.
One area where business owners are seeking more and more support in is that of social networking – they find it overwhelming and don’t know what to do, so engage the services of a social media expert to manage it for them. Whilst on the surface this strategy sounds great there is one major flaw with it – social networking is a way for YOU to engage with your audience and networks so that they can get to know YOU, not your assistant!
Whenever I’m explaining the concept of personal branding , I always end up talking about Jerry Maguire. Yes, before Tom Cruise jumped on Oprah’s couch and became the perpetual butt of Hollywood’s joke, he starred in one of my all-time-ever favorite movies. He played the title role, Jerry Maguire, a sports agent who has a breakdown breakthrough that leads to him leaving his cushy job and heading out on his own.
Join The Nature Conservancy in their 2011 Earth Day campaign, called Picnic for the Planet. They ‘re asking people to celebrate the planet by rounding up some friends and taking the planet out to lunch. They already have a number of meetups going on around the globe; just visit our map to find a picnic near you or see how you can start your own.
Retailers know the clock is ticking–legacy SAP Commerce support ends in 2026. Legacy platforms are becoming a liability burdened by complexity, rigidity, and mounting operational costs. But modernization isn’t just about swapping out systems, it’s about preparing for a future shaped by real-time interactions, AI powered buying assistants, and flexible commerce architecture.
Your desktop and frankly any other horizontal surface are the hardest places to keep clear. Bills to pay, to-do lists, event invites, magazines you have been meaning to read, orders you need to fill, and the list goes on and on. Often, we keep things "out" - either spread around or stacked - on our desk and other surfaces because we don't want to forget to do something that we have deemed important or don't want to forget.

At first, I was going to post this graphic I made for Love Lavishly and leave it at that--thinking it teaches enough moxie all by itself with no need for comment. And then, on a call with my Ultimate VA Members, one of them shared that she has a client she loves, but whose work has become horribly boring. She went on to say that she loves the relationship (which has been strong and good for quite some time), that she didn't want to leave it, and that she doesn't know what to do.
Documents are the backbone of enterprise operations, but they are also a common source of inefficiency. From buried insights to manual handoffs, document-based workflows can quietly stall decision-making and drain resources. For large, complex organizations, legacy systems and siloed processes create friction that AI is uniquely positioned to resolve.
Running a successful business is all about creating systems and processes, particulalry if you do the same thing over and over again. As soon as you do an activity/thing/step more than once, you need to create a system for it. For example: if you find you keep sending the same email again and again, create an email template – it’s very easy to set up in Outlook and is a huge timesaver (I’m all for that!).

"Can't you just tell me what tools to buy? I just don't have time to DO anything." She was frusterated when I talked with her on the phone. Busy business owners often are. However, there are no "magic beans" that you can buy to make more time and often buying more tools just clutters up your space. If you are not willing to take action, it does not matter what you buy. You will likely still be in the same position a year from now. Tough
Payroll compliance is a cornerstone of business success, yet for small and midsize businesses, it’s becoming increasingly challenging to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of federal, state, and local regulations. Mistakes can lead to costly penalties and operational disruptions, making it essential to adopt advanced solutions that ensure accuracy and efficiency.
When you look at products like WinWeb’s Online Office Suite you realize that it provides you with far more than just small business cloud computing software or Software as a Service (SaaS), it is actually a complete small business IT “Infrastructure as a Service&# (IaaS).
When I was in college, I spent a year in England as part of my University’s study abroad program. What an amazing experience! And, while I brought back a lot of weird slang and an unusual faux accent (which thankfully disappeared quickly), the one British-ism I still refer to regularly is “Mind the Gap.”. You see, the London underground system (which they call the “tube”) has a looping announcement for passengers to “please mind the gap,” referring to the space between the train and the platform
The Custom Content Council recently released a survey showing the growing role custom content is playing in marketing. The Council defines custom content and publishing as: "Custom publishing marries the marketing ambitions of a company with the information needs of its target audience. This occurs through the delivery of editorial content – via print, Internet, and other media – so intrinsically valuable that it moves the recipient’s behavior in a desired direction." According to
