I recently received an email from Joan in her trademark professional encouraging style. I realize many of you received this email and maybe additional emails celebrating AdministrativeProfessionals Day and our profession. I admire and appreciate the diversity of our group; there is so much to learn from every experience level.
I have shared several discussions about this topic with my peers throughout my years as an administrativeprofessional. Stating facts about your performance is a form of professionalism and confidence. Focusing on providing exceptional service at work can be a struggle especially if you are not feeling appreciated.

The “Traditional” Role of the AdministrativeProfessional Has Shifted In the past, admins have been responsible for things like customer service, accounting, and data entry.
She said that new assistants are mentored for the first year of their working career. They work initially as an assistant-in-training and report to a senior assistant for mentoring and help with anything that comes up on the job. Because of this mentoring program they had no problem hiring young assistants right out of college.
It's the standard advice: if you want to advance in your career or find a new position, seek out people who are already succeeding in that field and learn from them. You can certainly shorten your learning curve by asking questions or by establishing an ongoing mentoring relationship. Recognize the mentor. They want help.

One thing I have embraced since I was a child is learning. They mentored, coached and encouraged me. I learned a great deal from those executives. I also selected mentors throughout my career and, to this day, continue to have mentors. Every day I find something to learn. Learn from co-workers.
