Even asking to intern, shadow, or be mentored by someone well respected is a great first step. 5) Look for jobs under different titles with the same skill set.

It may take some time to gain self awareness, self reflection, and self management skills, but over the years I’ve come to know a few things about myself that most likely will not waiver. I mentored other younger assistants. How did I learn this? Outside of work, I started to take classes at night (and even on the weekends).

Becoming too comfortable in your career and with your skills can set you up for problems if you suddenly find yourself out of work. Find a mentor. Be a mentor - or help someone else with their career. I love #10.

I found every single one of my jobs through a temping agency or by referral. But in reality – the most useful skill that opened a lot of doors for me were my soft skills. 1) Do you have the admin skills to be an EA? They are looking for a job history with the exact same job they are looking to fill.
