Try to anticipate the need so you can have the file or the answer your boss needs, before he or she even knows they need it. Be protective of your boss’s time. A good assistant knows just where to find the document or file needed, or they won’t stop looking till they do. Be one step ahead of your boss.

I keep mine in an encrypted Word file on my computer. I also have an encrypted file with various other important numbers like my and my husbands social security numbers and the like. Servers are usually backed up daily, so your file will likely be restored. However, you probably want to password protect file.

At one office I worked in we had a mail cart with slots for everyones mail, but it was filed First name, Last name. Each time I went to get my mail I would find my mail in the other Patricias slot or vice versa. the phone book, standard filing practices etc.) Im sure you know what Im talking about. Well here is one of my Grrr!

When a meeting is finalized, I put the scheduling sheet in a completed file. I dont want to miss a step so always go through the checklist on the travel sheet. Taking it offline is a neat trick a friend of a friend of a friend showed me.

This is useful if you want to file the email and change the Subject line to something that better describes what the email is about or to put notes in the email. You can also attach a file from Word, Excel or PowerPoint or a business card from your Contacts if it is someone you need to remember to call and want that information available.

Normally, I put something about needing to get my filing system up to date, but I think I may have missed the point when I have done that. I use a place based in Toronto called Last Minute Training.

I use hanging file folders labelled from January through to December. My boss will give me items that he wants brought forward on certain dates and I just put it in the appropriate month he wants it with a note on it with the date, and sometimes time, he needs it by and it is as simple as that. I do this for each day of the week.

Put reminders in their Tasks or Calendar of anything you know is coming up with enough lead time so they will have time to complete it. Keep an organized filing system and file list. If your boss tends to misplace things when they get it, make an extra copy for your file before giving it to them.

The system I use is quite simple and has been around for a long time. Tried and True Method: I set up 12 hanging file folders labelled January through to December. I then put the items in a two-fold file folder with his calendar printed out on the one side and the items he will need for the day on the other side. Thats great!

Get any files they may need as a result of the e-mail correspondence. Check with your boss and if agreed, unsubscribe from any unnecessary e-mails that may be cluttering their Inbox or create subfolders and drag and drop these e-mails there for your boss to check when he or she has the time to review them. This can be as simple as having hanging file folders marked from January to December and then you just put items in the appropriate month that you need to bring forward for your boss. If he is travelling, I send it by e-mail, but it has been my experience that I will get better results with a face-to-face meeting.

Ctrl + Home moves the cursor to the beginning of the open file or document and Ctrl + End moves the cursor to the end of the open file or document, but if you are in the middle of a document and want to select everything from there down, press Ctrl + Shift + End or if you want to select everything from there up, press Ctrl + Shift + Home.

Once you created the model, XCode will generate the implementation files for your objects. Say you have an object called Task in Core Data, Xcode will take care of the implementation files, so all you have to do in code is to write something like: task.dueDate to get the due date property of a task. Hey, I know singletons! Big trouble.
