Sometimes the plan needs to change, even when it was a good one. Twenty years ago my flower bed was completely filled with weeds. I had a dream of a butterfly 🦋 garden that I could enjoy from my office window. One filled with color. The space has been cultivated for several years. We planted. We nurtured. We were patient. And it worked. Sort of. The space was full sun when we started, but over time, the tree in our backyard has grown taller than our two-story home.
A few weeks ago, we moved our son into his new apartment building. We were told we could park our vehicles in the alley next to the loading dock while we were doing the move-in. Later that night as we were getting ready to drive home, I saw this note on my windshield. According to the time on the note, it had been there for hours. Because we were new to the area, I thought the very large garage doors on the building across from D’s were commercial loading spaces, not access to someone’s garage.
If the word “systems” makes your shoulders tense, you’re not alone. Most high-performing leaders I work with have been burned by rigid structures that promised efficiency but delivered pressure, burnout, or boredom. If your systems are making you feel trapped, you don’t need better discipline. You need a different strategy. Busy is not a badge of honor.
Work-Life balance, what is that? How easy is it for you to create healthy boundaries for your business & life? If you say any of that is challenging for you, you’re not alone. Occupational Wellness is the feeling of purpose and productivity in one's chosen profession. This dimension is a crucial element in creating a life that you love. Also known as work-life balance, it is an enriched and fulfilling work experience that combines with a healthy personal life.
Imposter Syndrome impacts over 70% of adults. Could you be one of them? In this episode of Her Self Expression, Beverly Price talked with me about the 5 subgroups of Imposter Syndrome: the Perfectionist, the Superwoman/man, the Natural Genius, the Soloist, and the Expert. Media Type: Video or Audio Length: 27 minutes You'll Hear In this short yet information-packed episode, we discussed the following: A little about me and my journey to empowerment Defining Imposter Syndrome and understanding if
This is me eight years ago when I first held a python snake. Facing fears and eliminating unknown biases on this Puerto Vallarta vacation was not something I had planned, but it’s one of the things I remember. I had fears on top of worries. I had anxiety about how I would respond when I held the snake. I also had incorrect assumptions about the snake: how it would feel, react, etc.
Are your sales calls stressful or fun? Keep reading to discover things you can do before a sales conversation that will allow you make more sales and enjoy the process. At one time, I used to get anxious and entirely in my ego. I wanted to prove myself in every call. I’d be worried if I was going to say the right thing or not. And many of my calls were not that successful because I made it all about me.
Today's question is about the success/growth mindset Community Question – “What is the success mindset and is it possible to build one?” My Reply A success mindset/growth mindset is a way of looking at things. It is a perspective or attitude that can greatly influence your ability to achieve your goals and be successful in various aspects of life, including business/career, personal development, and relationships.
This week, I had a COMPASS Session with someone reviewing a document outlining agreement terms between them and two other people. Three items concerned them, and they were trying to decide how to respond. We identified several possible response choices, and then they said, {sigh} “Ug, I keep leaning into people-pleasing on this. I don't want them upset at the beginning of this relationship.” Time for a Focus Shift At this point, I knew the conversation needed to shift to allow them t
When you set boundaries with people, you may experience what feels like backlash. It can look like: criticism of your choices disappoint in your choices false accusations lobbied at you expressions of frustration with your choices infantilizing you self-victimization etc. This can feel uncomfortable, especially for people pleasers and recovering people pleasers.
Imposter Syndrome afflicts over 70% of all people, and many don't know it is standing in the way of their dreams and goals. It is prevalent among people considered to be high-achievers. It can show up as overperforming in one area and underperforming in another. I had the pleasure of talking with Eimer Duffy and Phillip Twyford on the Let's Get Social Show, and we talked about this common phenomenon and what you can do about it.
It is easy to look at successful people and think that they always have it “together” and that their life is nothing but joy. But, everyone has points in their life that are messy. Dionne Thompson, host of the Hot Mess to Awesomeness podcast, has created a show to highlight those stories and I had a great time talking with her about mine.

Meeting someone you never thought you would have the opportunity to meet is an awesome feeling. Back in 2016, Engel Jones asked me to come on his show #12MinuteConvos. He lives in the Caribbean and at that time I thought he’d be another “internet friend” that I’d never meet face-to-face. Then, Engel and his wife, Amanda, decided to do something extraordinary.
No matter what kind of content you intend to create, sometimes the ideas just don't come. Live streams, blog posts, articles, Instagram/Facebook/Snapchat stories, posts, short-form or long-form media — it can all seem like too much sometimes. Staring at a blank screen when you desperately want to create content and serve your audience can be stressful.
Are all of the different parts of you integrated into what you do? Recently, Cole Johnson and I sat down for what turned out to be one of the most personal interviews I have experienced in a long time. Good grief! He even “went there” and asked me about my biracial marriage and challenges we have faced. {grin} Add in some business and marketing topics and it was an ecclectic conversation.
Parenting and running your own business at the same time can be a challenge. What happens when you try to mix being an engaged and involved parent and owning a successful business? In this episode of The Productive Parent, Ana Reisdorf and I talk about the intersection between entrepreneurship and parenthood and how to effortlessly excel at both guilt-free and resentment-free!
I've been thinking a lot lately about how we we often treat people we see as strong (physical or emotional strength) like Teflon and why we may want to stop that. How Strong People are Like Teflon. Teflon is a non-stick coating that is used on a lot of cookware. It is supposed to make the food slide off the pan and require less effort to clean. Yet, many people don't take care of their pans.
How do you approach the obstacles that stand in the way of your dreams? Some pretend they don't exist and keep doing the same thing every day, hoping that something will magically change. Some give up and change their dreams. Obstacles are really opportunities to look at life a bit differently. Some power through. Some go around. Some say “I'll figure it out no matter what!
Life is filled with ups and downs. Getting off kilter can be caused by many things: health challenges, breakups/divorce, technology crashes, caring for elderly parents, feelings about political events and a lot more. When you are a business owner and you get off kilter, it can be debilitating to your business growth. It can even cause choices that cause harm to your business.
One of the best ways to attract amazing clients and customers for your business is to powerfully demonstrate your knowledge, expertise and problem-solving abilities. Being a guest expert on podcasts, radio shows, and web shows is a great way to do that. Are you ready to say “Yes!” if a host invites you onto their platform? Pam Perry of Speakers Magazine invited me to share some tips you can use right now to be ready to make the most of your guest expert experience.
Being a guest expert provides you the opportunity to get in front of millions of people, share your message/mission, show them how you can solve a problem they might have, and build powerful relationships with the person hosting you. Sadly, many don’t recognize the amazing opportunity they have when their appearance is over. The more you help promote your appearance, the more the host is inspired to share too.
How easy is it for you to say “no” to requests that you do not want to do? For many, it isn't easy! In today's fast-paced, activity-rich society, we are all juggling a lot of responsibilities. You believe that you are handling all of the items well, and nothing is falling yet. Then it happens: someone asks you to take on one more thing. You feel a little panic or resentment brewing in the back of your mind, but habit forces those feelings down, and you begin to say “yes”

'A few weeks ago we started talking about visibility blocks. Visibility blocks are those sometimes conscious, but often unconscious, things that keep us from really showing our true brilliance. Visibility blocks keep us from fully serving our ideal clients. They keep us playing small and there are a number of them! Today, I'm diving into the world of podcasting and sharing why you might want to consider starting a podcast as well as exposing some blocks that may be keepi
'It goes on and on. And never ends. The perpetual search for the magic key that delivers just about anything you want: Money. Freedom. Love. Fulfillment. Adventure, and more. What if I told you there was such a key? OK … stay with me. Because we're not going to go off on some roller coaster ride into hype-land. Because while it’s hard to believe … the path that can bring you anything you want really does exist. And what's amazing is: -->
'One of the fastest ways for you to reach more people, so you can serve more people, is to get your message out far and wide. We all know that using different media to teach and market is an awesome way for our ideal clients to find us. Yet, we put off actions that we know will produce results for our business. Why is that?? Secret: Many of us have a sneaky gremlin or two that keeps us from really being all we can be.
'The other day I was taking a walk with Danny (my ever faithful Havanese) and I really took in the look around us. We had an unusual cold snap a few weeks ago and all of our trees dropped their leaves at the same time. On one hand, it made quite a mess! On the other, we raked them all at once and have not had to rake since. That got me thinking about entrepreneurs and letting go. More specifically, this entrepreneur (me) and what she is letting go and encouragi
'Where are you telling yourself that you are "not good enough" or "not smart enough" or "not X enough" to have conversations with someone?? Here is an example for you, every week on Breakthrough Business Strategy Radio, host Michele Price encourages her listeners to reach out and actually have conversations with her regular guests and her special guests for that show. Some people will take her up on the offer and reach out to us, while others never do.
'As I work with clients and talk with colleagues, delegation is often a topic of conversation. Here are a few comments I heard just this week: "I've grown a 6-figure business on my own, but I know I'll be stuck at this point if I don't change something. I just have not found a good system yet." "It's such a pain figuring out how to not have things fall through the cracks." "We're just not getting stuff done. I've tried delegating through
'I bet that in some form or fashion you have a list outlining the things that you need to do today. Those tasks that you need to complete or projects that are in various states of completion. Time management experts all over the globe tell us to get the tasks out of our head an onto To-do lists. To-do lists are really great for keeping us organized and focused where we should be focused. If followed, they help us get through our day and actually have gotten something
'Have you ever been at an event and watched others easily process payments for their products and programs and wished you knew of an easy way to do that for your stuff? Well, you are in luck! PayPal now has a really easy way to take payments on location. It's called PayPal Here and comes with a swipe tool (just like Square). But, I don't care to carry around additional hardware if I. don't need it. With PayPal Here you simply need the app and a steady hand
'I talk with many business owners every day that are extremely giving. in their time and talents. However, when it comes to receiving, they. have a bit of a harder time. (I've been there too. I'm a recovering. I-can-do-it-myselfer.) At one time I had a private client that. told me that she felt weak when she asked for help. I don't hold that. belief. I believe you show strength when you can recognize the things you do well and the things that you do
