It's time to negotiate. Now, some people may think that there's no room for negotiation in this job market. But if they have gone to the trouble to wade through the resumes they're being bombarded with, if you've risen to the top with all that tough competition out there, then they want you. Be realistic. Take a breath.
To start with, record brief greetings on both your answering machine at home and your mobile phone, and project a clear, mature, businesslike, and overall positive message. Next, get into the habit of answering your phone professionally. The resume reader’s objective is to eliminate résumés that clearly seem to lack something.
Negotiate for other compensation/benefits. Some employers will pay the cost of monthly Internet service if you put in work time from home, or pay your cell phone bill if you spend time using it for business. In this economy, it can be difficult to negotiate when employers are cutting back not only salaries, but positions.
We sift through resumes, we conduct initial phone interviews, we narrow the field to the best candidates and then we conduct additional video and/or in-person interviews. #3 We select the top candidates for your executive assistant position and present them to you with a written interview summary and a resume.
Those who are serious about working with you will make time or else negotiate a more amenable schedule. You may also add other calls to action, such as asking for a copy of their resume or CV, at the end of your letter. The other details can be discussed over a phone call.
I knew we were going to go back to that city the next year so negotiated with the hotel that if I booked the next event at their venue would they waive the cancellation fee. Negotiation As you saw above, negotiation is possible. There is value in getting to know people, even if it is just over email or the phone.
It’s also essential to handle phone calls and correspondence, schedule meetings, arrange business trips, organize presentations, conduct market research, and pay bills. You could post a job description (“Executive Assistant for Busy Entrepreneur”) and sift through all the resumes, but do you have time for that?
If you are trying to squeeze in time to peruse resumes here and there, or call references between meetings, the hiring process can stretch out for weeks or even months longer than it needs to. You can focus on keeping your business or life running full steam ahead, while your recruiter handles the administration of the hiring process.
Keep in mind how long it takes to commute or how you will find a quiet, private place to do phone interviews. Some weeks between commuting, phone interviews, in person interviews, and planning/searching/scheduling/researching everything, I was spending a good 25 hours or more just on my job hunt.
Oftentimes, they have never met me, but may recall my name or my boss’ name when I mention it over the phone. Aside from that, I use it for many reasons, but largely, I want to have my resume online so I can connect with people and have them learn about me should they so desire.
Your termination is more “in the past” than being the focal point of your resume because your first job description will be the temping stuff. All this time I wanted to be recognized for my great resume and hard work and when I got offered a job on the spot, I retreated instead of saying yes right away.
You also have more negotiating leverage for a better salary and projects. I can not stress volunteering enough to spruce up your resume for when are you ready to leave your current company. HR will usually call 2-3 people for a quick phone chat. Short of that, looking for a new job elsewhere is your second best bet.
Do You Have a Phone? What REALLY maddens me are my 20-something fellow karate dojo colleagues – they’re looking for jobs but tell them to put up a personal resume website to highlight their skills, and they react like a deer in the headlights. Do You Have a Phone? The more money it costs the more stable you look.

This sounds like the generic stuff you put on your resume when you’re just out of college and don’t realize that your resume shouldn’t sound like everyone else’s, and also that everyone in the world is lying when they say they are “goals-oriented.” I’m imagining that happening where someone called me on the phone IN MY OWN VOICE.
