I work at a travel and event planning agency. For event planning needs, the EA, admin assts, HR, and Facilties and Operations usually chip in and help. Large companies have depts dedicated solely to event planning and they only hire vendors for red carpet, lighting, catering, and furniture. Happy reading!

I mention how I worked for all my CEOs because I was recruited away as a temp. I wasn’t there to socialize or go out of my way to point out I was a temp to try to get a full-time job. My goal as temp was to be asked back as a temp repeatedly - that’s it. I wanted to do my job well for whatever it was they hired me to do.

I hope these tips help you! You’d think that if you had a credit card, you’d be safe, but I once had to get a cashier’s check for almost $400 for a work event. Sometimes companies don’t validate for parking especially if you are doing testing at a temp agency and are there for a few hours. Have a great credit score.

As you are job hunting, think hard about if you want to temp, freelance, do contract work, temp-to-hire, or direct hire roles only and under which circumstance. I'm pushed pretty far in terms of capacity on most days - one extra board meeting or event can result in a spiral of 60 hour weeks. I've heard of EAs who are promoted to Operations or Facilities roles later on in their careers but at this point, I am playing both roles.
