We held our first Assist Travel conference and exhibition on Friday 25th September at the Hilton Bankside and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the day. As with all of our Assist Events we like to make sure that it is a little different and I loved our travel themed registration desk. I hope those that came along enjoyed it too.

I also organise his business travel. Since my boss travels a lot, I take care of his travel expenses and supplier invoices. Around the corner from our office in Frankfurt we have a wonderful burger restaurant. Sometimes I enjoy an evening at the Zarges restaurant in Frankfurt – another place I can highly recommend.

Along with everything else that is asked of assistants we do have to possess some sort of encyclopaedic knowledge of the world’s best restaurants and hotels. Keep a list of great restaurants and add to it whenever you come across a new suggestion.

If your organisation uses a corporate travel agent you might be contractually obliged to use their services for overseas travel but not necessarily for hotels in or near your office. But if you need a lot of hotel rooms and your preferred supplier is fully booked it is good to know you have a few corporate rates elsewhere.

In addition I met with a number of serviced apartment suppliers and from the outset it was clear that the apartments were considerably cheaper than the best corporate rate I was offered at a hotel. Generally the apartments do not provide additional facilities such as a gym, restaurant or spa.

On the day I reverted to ‘show and tell’ and picked up the annual catalogue of restaurants for both of my bosses which greatly impressed them. If I was ever impressed by a particular restaurant or hotel I would send them the link or bring them in the hard copy brochure to examine.
