Not only did I set the meetings up, but I also took notes (in shorthand no less), transcribed the notes and prepared final reports for dissemination. They conveyed their needs to me; I found them the venues/destination that would best help them accomplish their goals and objectives. Did I think of this as meeting planning?

I grew up in a different age where working hard and being humble were par for the course for the PA. Be mindful of your end goal – you need to tie in your request for L&D to your current position and how it will prepare you and your boss for the future. Will the request tie in with one of your appraisal goals?

Often there are required suppliers and service providers such as audio/visual vendors, or caterers who you must use when working with a specific venue. This limits your negotiating power to compare pricing and use your own vendors. They will also be familiar with the space which can be helpful when it comes to setting up.

We are the ultimate super-jugglers who have the ability to throw a to-do list up in the air and catch it in a different order depending on the situation at hand. However – if we are not willing to speak up and actively list our duties how can we expect colleagues and managers to be aware of this change in office dynamics?
