Bellevue-based online marketplace OfferUp has laid off 22% of its workforce. The layoffs were announced to employees on Wednesday. While OfferUp disclosed the percentage of its workforce affected, it did not provide specific details about the number of employees or the departments impacted. As of Thursday morning, OfferUp listed 483 employees on its LinkedIn page.

Ive experienced four layoffs in mid-November over the past decadetwo of mine and two of my husbandsperfectly timed to put a damper on the holiday season. Tidings of joy were replaced by woe and dread, yet we somehow had to muster a cheery disposition for the sake of our children and for all those we knew who were still gainfully employed and carefree.

Meta said on Thursday it was releasing an artificial intelligence model called Meta Motivo, which could control the movements of a human-like digital agent, with the potential to enhance Metaverse experience. The company has been plowing tens of billions of dollars into its investments in AI, augmented reality and other Metaverse technologies, driving up its capital expense forecast for 2024 to a record high of between $37 billion and $40 billion.

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump on Thursday appeared to back the anti-automation stance of some 45,000 union dockworkers on the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts, whose labor talks are at an impasse over that polarizing issue. The ILA and the United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) employer group are facing a Jan. 15 deadline to finalize talks, which stalled over automation.
