When you’re one half of a couple, frequent business travel can take its toll on your relationship. There’s also something particularly poignant about sitting down to a table set for one in an unfamiliar restaurant amid the sound of strange accents and clinking glasses. As we had arrived early and our room was not quite ready we were taken to the terrace bar and restaurant for a complimentary drink. Once we returned to the hotel we were at the mercy of the concierge for a restaurant recommendation that evening. The following morning we headed to the terrace restaurant for breakfast.

The reception area leads on to the restaurant area and to a small bar space – The Consulting Room which serves cocktails and afternoon tea. With the newspapers thoroughly read I made my way down to the restaurant for dinner. Advertised minimum rate per night is £104 (January 2015). The food was lovely and fresh.

The hotel, pub and restaurant sit beautifully in a striking three story corner building on Pimlico Street which allows for a few of the bedrooms, areas of the bar and parts of the restaurant to be bathed in a warm glow from the street lights outside. Advertised minimum rate per night is £240 (February 2015).

Once settled we went downstairs for a light lunch in one of the hotel’s restaurants, Cipriani’s. The following morning we headed to the hotels buffet restaurant where we were greeted with a great selection of continental breakfast and hot options from the waiter service. Advertised minimum rate per night is €207 (February 2015).

the serve is excellent and there is plenty of amenities to keep you occupied – including a spa, fitness centre, two restaurants, outside patio, Starbucks Coffee and lots of conference and meeting space for those organising events in the city. On the day I reverted to ‘show and tell’ and picked up the annual catalogue of restaurants for both of my bosses which greatly impressed them. If I was ever impressed by a particular restaurant or hotel I would send them the link or bring them in the hard copy brochure to examine.
