Here are some tips as your career progresses that will affect how you job hunt. The lower-level admin you are the more jobs there are. Those jobs support the President, CEO, CTO, CFO, and Chairman. Your job hunt will take a lot longer. Job hunt with focus. Make a decision.

The company will ask that you charge everything from business travel to catered lunches on your credit card and they will reimburse you. Have money for job hunting and working. Whenever you interview for a job, there’s at least 2-3 interviews if not more. Sometimes you have to spend money to make money.

So be warned - often unfairly, the first job you take out of college becomes your specialty. After I was laid off I of course had to go look for another job. I was called in for an interview at an agency and it was the assistant that did all the vetting of the candidates. In hindsight, there was fault in my thinking.

We've hired people who were 20 minutes late to an interview that was only 30 min. When we schedule interviews, numerous people are involved. We might offer to fly you in so we have to get approval from our executives and work with our travel agent. Often we are filling multiple jobs.

In light of Enron and a lot of these CEO scandals you should be interviewing your boss and about the role as well. Don’t automatically assume because the package looks good or the job sounds great on paper you will like it.
