During my time in Geneva it certainly hadn’t escaped my notice that Geneva is an expensive city: you can’t really escape it (unless you spend all of your time hanging around the central train station). I had spent three days in Geneva and was well aware that everything is ridiculously expensive.

I had just spent 2 months travelling around a freezing USA and although back in the UK my body was still a little cold, a little jet lagged and in serious need of some rest and relaxation. We had asked for a twin room but instead the two mattresses that made up the king size bed had been unzipped and pulled slightly apart. It was okay.

I manage his schedule and monitor his emails, as well as help organise some of his travel, company events, and client dinners, occasional research, expenses and ad hoc tasks – all the general PA duties. My alarm goes off at 05:30 and I usually hit snooze twice before actually getting up.

Sustainable events don’t need to be expensive events. Long gone are the days of endless budgets, assistants are now given strict instructions on how much they can spend on the events they organise and sustainability is not something that comes up in a conversation with our bosses. Think ahead.

A massive family trip to Mexico, where I still kept up with my journalling habit and my routines along the way. Dixit , Tokaido , Ticket to Ride , and Hanabi were just a small sampling of what showed up that month. We had a great (albeit expensive) time. It took much longer than anticipated. MUCH longer. Good times.

I am always encouraging people to travel to Barcelona and explore everything that the city has to offer including areas that might not be quite on the tourist trail. The reception space is a great place to sit and relax or catch up on some work. Advertised minimum rate per night is €81 (July 2014). .
