When she was a junior in high school, Arrington founded the nonprofit ScholarCHIPS, an organization that provides college scholarships, mentoring, mental health support and a peer support network to children of incarcerated parents.

The captain didn’t hesitate, despite the small chance she could never fly again if having only one remaining kidney left her too weak to pass stringent pilot health standards.
