The idea was to think outside of existing construction conventions to imagine a space that could form part of nature’s ecosystem. They proposed that the structure of the living building be formed by enabling native trees to grow over a CNC (computer designed) plywood scaffold.

I am also an environmental science teacher, so every year I create a bulletin board that suggests other green holiday ideas to my students because there are so many ways to offset your carbon footprint. Just last fall, Id packed a small pink duffel bag with enough clothes to sneak away for a couple of days to a place that had long been teetering near the top of my bucket list: New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. Thats when they set an ambitious goal: reaching a net zero carbon footprint by 2025.
