Sustainable Design Collective announces new forum and awards

The Sustainable Design Collective, a ‘think tank’ group of leading workplace designers and specifiers, has announced a new Forum Day, together with industry awards, focussed on greater sustainability. Originally formed in January 2022, the Sustainable Design Collective hosts regular meetings to collaborate and discuss new opportunities to promote environmental and social responsibility within the office workplace. The group is now inviting conversations with fellow designers as well as suppliers and manufacturers.

The SDC Forum, to be held on 25the April 2023 at the Crypt on the Green in Clerkenwell, will be an interactive event for designers to learn and hear about industry-wide efforts to drive greater environmental responsibility, wellbeing and social value.

Panel discussions will include designing for end of life; benchmarking and certification for product selection; how designers can support their clients in their efforts towards Net Zero; and ‘making change happen’. Running in parallel to the main Forum, there will be a Material Lab to enable designers to experience some of the latest innovations in materials.

“The SDC forum will be a ‘first of its kind’ event. It’s designed by members of the workplace design community working in the workplace sector to provide an opportunity for knowledge sharing and learning with colleagues,” explains Harsha Kotak, co-founder at the Sustainable Design Collective.

The Forum ‘headline’ sponsors are The Furniture Practice; Vitra; Cosentino; and Bureau Group. These companies will be joined by other industry manufacturers and suppliers who will offer one-to-one meeting opportunities to discuss new initiatives and developments.

The SDC Awards for Sustainability will be presented at the end of the day. Focussing on the office workplace sector, the awards are designed to champion ‘best practice’ and highlight innovations.

Free to enter, there are three categories covering Projects, Products and Innovation. Each Award will be selected by a panel of members of the Sustainable Design Collective and editor of Works magazine, Mick Jordan.

Entries are now open and invited from design practices as well as manufacturers and suppliers. Further details are available at https://thesustainabledesigncollective.co.uk/awards
