This week’s article is all about using what you’ve got! If you want to achieve career success, it’s not enough to just show up. You have to fully utilize your talents, skills and abilities to deliver value in the workplace.
Unfortunately, a lot of professionals have a hard time with this. They say things like, “I’m capable of so much more…but I’m underutilized.”
I want to encourage you to shake off the notion that others are responsible for using you to your fullest potential. No one but YOU can tap into your greatness.
You have to be a vocal advocate for yourself and your capabilities. Take initiative and demonstrate what you can do. Don’t wait for others to figure it out or hand you opportunities to shine.
I know it’s easier said than done. But you have so much to offer, and you have a wealth of tools at your disposal. If you want to do more and be more and achieve more, it starts with YOU.
Speak up. Volunteer to tackle that challenge that no one else will touch. Raise your hand to lead that high profile project. Stretch yourself to take on more responsibilities and use more of your gifts.
Keep in mind that persistence pays off. When you believe you have more to give, it might take time for others to recognize that truth. They might have to see it—many times—to believe it themselves. So be consistent.
You are meant to be utilized. As humans, we are all useful creatures. We have arms to help carry the load. We have legs to walk beside those who struggle. And we have brains to imagine new and different ways to be of use to others.
You have been endowed with so much. Use everything you’ve got.
