How to be Seen as a Leader at Work and get Promoted Quick

Dumb Little Man

Some people watch it happen. Some people say what happened. And some people make it happen. The world and more importantly your workplace is crying out for people who make it happen. One of the biggest mistakes people make is thinking that leadership is in a title. “I couldn’t do that, that is only for managers or senior people” people often think. I should know, I used to do that myself. Well in order to be seen as a leader or a potential leader, you must act like one.

10 do’s and don’t for managing your boss’s task list

Practically Perfect PA

In this post I am assuming your Executive has a task list that they use every day to get through their work! Hopefully this task list is available for you to access on a daily basis and you have the rights to edit and update the list. Ideally the list should be on the same email system that you use to manage their inbox and schedule (Microsoft Outlook for example). If this is not the case it might be worth suggesting to your boss that you work together on their to-do list.

The Decline of Employee Training & The Rise of Side Gigs

Small Business Labs

The chart below, which shows a decline in employer-provided and on-the-job training in recent decades, has been making the rounds in the economic blogs. It comes from the 2015 Economic Report of the President  (page 147), which is prepared annually by the President's Council of Economic Advisers for Congress.      This data is collected only occasionally by the U.S. Census, which explains why the latest data is from 2008. But

3 Things I Learned from Playing Big in Life

Dumb Little Man

Chances are that most of us at one stage or another have found ourselves at a pivotal crossroad in our lives. Which way to turn? We have all been there. Over-thinking a decision into oblivion and flinging ourselves into a tailspin. The analytical mind whips us into a frenzy and we let our ego run wild off its leash. The human mind has a tendency to speed ahead with its I-Know-What’s-Best-For-Me-Thanks-Very-Much attitude.

Reward and Recognition within the Assistant Industry

Practically Perfect PA

For all of you that could not attend the Assist Conference this year I wanted to share my presentation with you – Reward and Recognition within the Assistant Industry. This session was actually crowd sourced by the Practically Perfect PA readers. We conducted a survey last year and one of the questions asked what session would the readers like to see at a conference. We had a lot of responses around the area of recognition for the work that assistants do and the lack of reward.

The Client's Bill of Rights

Virtual Moxie

Last week, I posted about the VA''s Bill of Rights, and suggested that you embrace the standards it contains. This week, I''m sharing the Client''s Bill of Rights, and with it the same suggestion. :). Clients have the right to certain expectations of you in the work you do together. Please notice that none of the rights have anything to do with making you "less-than," or treating you like an employee. Client''s Bill of Rights 1. The right to be fairly invoiced 2.

Confidence is key for assistants

Practically Perfect PA

Having low self-esteem or confidence issues can be a real challenge in life, particularly in the office and particularly for assistants. We have a difficult job and if we are unable to stand up for ourselves this makes the role a lot harder. It can lead to feeling unchallenged, unappreciated and more importantly managed ineffectively by your Executive. Although not all of us are blessed with unwavering self-confidence (I certainly am not!)

A Honey of an Indiegogo Campaign

Small Business Labs

Beekeeping has been around for thousands of years. And the process of collecting the honey has always been difficult (just ask Winnie the Pooh).   It's also hard on the bees, which often believe their hive is being invaded and attack the beekeeper. But a father-and-son team from Australia have developed an innovative beekeeping system - Honey on Tap -  that simplifies the process and makes it easier for both the keeper and the bees.

5 Reasons a Female Friend is the Perfect Wingman

Dumb Little Man

What is your biggest fear when you are on a date with a woman? I know a lot of guys who would say that their biggest fear is to land in the zone that no man wants to land in. As you can already imagine I am talking about the friend zone. It never feels good when a woman tells you that “you are such a nice guy, but…” especially when you are really into her. It always hurts when a woman puts you in the friend zone. However, it is not as bad as you probably think.

Despite this hotel being off of the main Taksim shopping street we found it very hard to find. It was down a very steep hill which involved lots of steps (the taxi driver refused to take us to the door due to building works taking place a few doors down from the hotel!). Once we eventually found the hotel the Townhouse style exterior contributed to the boutiquey feel of the hotel. We were greeted in a small reception area on the ground floor, most of which was taken up by an art exhibition.
