Are You An Emotional Packrat?

Dumb Little Man

Confession time, until a few years ago I was an emotional packrat. While I would tell others to let stuff go, forgive and forget, and just move on, I would keep adding to my emotional baggage and never dealing with it. I would hang on to these thoughts and feelings continually replaying different scenarios in my head. Each time I would think of things I should have said (or perhaps should have avoided saying).

Bad Career Advice: Never Give Up

Eat Your Career

This post is part of my Bad Career Advice series in which I expose outdated, clichéd, and counterproductive advice for exactly what it is. I understand the sentiment behind this piece of advice and clearly, its intent is to push you past your own perceived limits. While its heart is in the right place, I believe the advice to “never give up&# also ignores the blatant reality of life and instills the idea that quitting for any reason is an unacceptable act of defeat.

Simple Productivity Blog

Mondays are productivity days at SimpleProductivity blog. Managing time is the basis for all productivity systems, yet the systems assume people already know how to manage time. As well as immense business success, Branson has personally broken a number of world records for high-speed boat and balloon journeys. There are so many things I want to do in the short time I'm here. Some of these things scare me, some will challenge me and others are just plain fun. Stocking stuffers, we tend not to do them in this house. Concepts in Productivity: Good Enough

Simple Productivity Blog

I was knitting something a few days ago when I noticed I had made a mistake in the pattern a few rows back. I was faced with the decision of do I unravel and fix it, or do I go on? This occurred mid-way through the project, and I was able to look at the mistake both in the context of the finished work as well as the (eventual) finished product. So it was a matter of evaluating based on what was already done, as well as what was coming.

How to Have Enriching Relationships

Dumb Little Man

Imagine your life without friends, family, or loved-ones. What would life be like? What would you do? Who would you be? It’s certainly hard to imagine because a major part of peoples’ identity and lifestyle revolves around the people they care about and spend time with. Prepare for the Holidays by Purging Your Possessions

Ian's Messy Desk

Image via Wikipedia. One of the key parts of the holiday season is giving and receiving gifts. How that plays out in your life, depends on the degree of simplicity you embrace. Unless you have decided against gift-giving altogether—and some do—you’ll find yourself with a new load of things. With all the stuff will come the need to find storage. A simple step is to designate some time in the fall to sort through your possessions and get rid of things you now longer need.

8 Tips for Christmas Time Management

Ian's Messy Desk

Image by EverySpoon via Flickr. Set an artificial deadline. Start your planning earlier and have it finished by December 1: the shopping, wrapping, decorating, baking, etc. If that seems too early for your taste, go with December 15th or 20th so you have a few stress-free days before Christmas. Trade tasks. Hate baking, love to shop? Find someone among your friends and family who likes to do the opposite and trade the task you dislike. They do all the baking, while you handle the shopping.
