The great resignation and the great reshuffle during the pandemic, tied in some cases to childcare and homeschooling and in others to reevaluation of priorities, appears to be driving a new trend: boomerang employees. Workers are returning to their former employer more often than in the past and often after a shorter time away. According to LinkedIn data , boomerang employees accounted for “4.3% of all job switches” in 2021, up from under 2% in 2010.

According to a study of 1,000 corporate American workers, 60% of them experienced improved relationships with coworkers after attending office parties. Additionally, 1 in 10 received a promotion after an office party. The fallout from office parties isn’t always positive: 35% of workers experience strained relationships, 26% are reprimanded somehow, 17% lose a client, and 14% get fired.

What’s going on: Serendipity Labs, an international flexible office space provider, has announced a 10-year contract with The Durst Organization in which it will operate a 41,000 square foot office facility within their 532,000 square foot 205 East 42nd building, which is located just a stone’s throw from Grand Central Terminal. It will open on March 1 st.

What’s going on: Brookfield Corp., the parent company of the biggest office landlord in downtown Los Angeles, has defaulted on loans associated with two of its buildings instead of opting for refinancing, due to an unmet demand for space. According to a filing , the two affected properties from the Brookfield DTLA Fund Office Trust Investor portfolio are the Gas Company Tower, with its $465 million in loans, and the 777 Tower, with approximately $290 million in debt.

Over half (58 percent) of employers in the UK believe that they will lose staff in the next six months as they seek to earn more by moving jobs, according to a new poll. According to the survey by talent services company, Morgan McKinley for its 2023 Salary Guide , 56 percent of employees in the UK are looking to move jobs in the first half of the year, with 49 percent selecting better pay as the primary reason, followed by ‘better career growth and development opportunities’ (17 percent).
