I had a few mediation and arbitrations to set up and telephone calls to schedule with clients, but the bulk of my work was preparing documents on time and reminding the lawyers I worked for what needed to be done and by when. I became very familiar with time zones and making travel arrangements.

Many of clients travel for work and pleasure, crossing multiple time zones. Do high intensity cardio - it will help with jet lag, sleeping in a new time zone and oxygen replenishment. On a really long flight, do your best to get some shut eye, and when you land, hit the ground running in your new time zone.

Participants do have to concentrate on a conference call so think about the time of day when your manager seems particularly focused. Do ask if they are in a different time zone to you. This way, everyone will be using the exact same documents , spreadsheet , etc. Just make sure to protect the documents, spreadsheets, etc. Another option is to create templates in Microsoft Office and either e-mail them to everyone or place them on a network drive for everyone to access. so that they dont get changed.

Coming from a legal background, we were always taught if you are using an acronym or initialism in writing, on the first use you should spell it out and then put the acronym in brackets, which makes a lot of sense and saves a lot of head scratching and searching the document to figure out what the person is referring to.

You need to be able to find certain documents on your cubicle walls for easy reference. Try to keep your documents, pictures, etc. Try to keep the pictures on a professional level, so obviously dont hang anything that might be lewd, harmful to others cultures or has a picture of something illegal on it.

For paper things that I need to remember to follow up on, I put the letter or document in my Wait Bin (which is a tray for things I am waiting on). That wouldnt work for me because I dont have that many paper documents to bring forward, but I can see it being necessary if you have lots of items. Where can I put this paper? Thats great!
