As a professional speaker and corporate trainer , I’m often mistaken for one of those rare “naturally confident” people. Contrary to what you might believe, confidence and self-esteem are rarely natural traits. Instead, they are skills that can be learned through practice. The dirty little secret that no one talks about is this: research shows that nearly 100% of mentally healthy people will struggle with self-confidence to one degree or another.

Having low self-esteem or confidence issues can be a real challenge in life, particularly in the office and particularly for assistants. Although not all of us are blessed with unwavering self-confidence (I certainly am not!) There are areas within the role that every assistant should feel comfortable with and have confidence in their own abilities. Here are my top three: Skills. Confidence comes from knowing what you are really good at.
